ABOUT ABOUT

On behalf of the Embassy of El Salvador, in collaboration with Mitchel Art Gallery and Proof Drinks would like to cordially invite you to the art exhibition of Carlos Barrios and the launch of Cihuatán Rum.

Carlos Barrios was born in El Salvador, Central America, and now lives and works in Queensland; he grew up exploring remnants of ancient cultures, surrounded by artifacts and art due to his father's career as an archeologist.

He began painting figures and creatures from his imagination at six. The main focus of Carlos' artworks is to paint the good he believes is in everyone.

Carlos Barrios has been a finalist in several art prizes, including the Blake Prize, Sulman Prize, NSW Plein Air Art Prize, and the Fisher Ghost Art Prize.

Cihuatán Rum was founded in 2004; the distillery is located in El Paisnal municipality, El Salvador, and takes its name from a Mayan settlement, now the Cihuatán archaeological site.

Proof Drinks would like to introduce Australia to El Salvador's first rum distillery showing the flavour profiles from the range at Cihuatán Distillery.

The team at the Cihuatán rum distillery has created unique rums that tell the story of their Mayan ancestors. The same curiosity that drove the Mayans drives the team at Cihuatán Rum, the first rum distillery in El Salvador.

This event is an inspiration of Salvadoran heritage combining art with El Salvador's first rum, crafted by hand in the heart of the Cihuatán valley.
